The portrait Sears offered was a staple of the “cheap and fast” photography world, especially here in Boca Raton, Florida where their Town Center Mall location has been located since the 1970s. But with the advent of digital photography, demand began to slide since every 10-year-old with an iPhone thought they could do better than Sears (and they were right). Sears responded with even lower prices, photography packages, coupon codes and other lures. They tried everything short of offering a decent portrait.
The same company that ran Sears portrait studio also ran studios at Wal-Mart and Babies R Us stores so like a stack of dominoes, the consumer has now declared that he’s fully qualified to produce the “cheap and fast” product himself. Target and JCPenney and thousands of “mom-n-pop” photography studios are probably next since they all seem to emulate these industry dinosaurs.
But, when you really need a simple, good portrait (great lighting, composition, studio or location), what can you do?
Good thing we’re here. Forever Studios always produces great images and our clients agree. Our portrait photographers will not be satisfied unless they’ve captured your best angle, in the best light, in a way you (or your 10-year-old) could never do yourself. Otherwise, we better find another line of work since the cheap portrait is going the way of the mullet haircut.
